This weekend, we have another interesting matchup featuring Kell “Special K” Brook (36-1 25KO) and Errol Spence Jr (21-0 18KO). Let’s go over some of the stats and make a prediction shall we?
Kell Brook, 31 years old, has a respectable resume, most notably a decision win over top welterweight Shawn Porter (24-0-1 at the time of the fight). Brook’s sole loss was to middleweight kingpin Gennady Golovkin, a fight in which Brook went up two full weight classes, so the is no shame in that loss. All in all Brook has solid technical skills and enough power to warrant respect.
For his part, Errol Spence brings a resume with wins over Leonard Bundu and Chris Algieri. Both of those fights he was able to stop the opponent with sharp, precise power shots. The only real asterisk is whether or not Spence can work through the adversity that a fighter with knockout power presents. Brook has such power.
This has the makings of a great fight. Both fighters are undefeated in their division, and both show considerable skill and power at the weight. Brook is my pick here by decision because Porter gave him hell their entire fight, and we haven’t seen Spence make it through that yet. I will say this is an open fight in which either boxer could win and I wouldn’t be surprised.
