It doesn’t always take a belt to create an interesting fight. Sometimes, it just takes two warriors willing to give and take for the entertainment of the fans. Enter Ruslan Provodnikov and John Molina Jr. The action will be televised on Showtime on June 11th starting at 9PM EST.
Ruslan Provodnikov (25-4 18KO) always brings the action to his fights with his throwback come-forward style. He has a chin of steel, and the heart of a true fighter. In 2013, his bout with Tim Bradley Jr. earned “Fight of the Year” honors, creating an entertaining brawl in which the “Siberian Rocky” lost a close decision.
Across the ring from him will be John Molina Jr. (28-6 23KO). Molina is no stranger to wars, with his contest against Lucas Matthysse being voted the “2014 Fight of the Year.” The real question is how much did that fight take out of him, as his more recent bout with Adrien Broner was very lackluster (partly because of Molina’s lack of aggression, partly due to Broner’s defensive skills.) In any case, he is not known to take backwards steps in the ring.
This fight has all of the credentials of a memorable 2016 FOTY candidate, and is must see entertainment for any boxing fan. My prediction here is Provodnikov by KO, but the fight should be competitive and high paced until then. Both warriors have mileage on them, but I think Provo is a notch higher in most areas (not to take anything away from Molina.) A win for either fighter here will open the doors up to bigger fights against the top 140/147 pound fighters.
